TCA peels are cosmetic treatments that use trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to improve your skin's appearance. The peels come in a variety of strengths or concentrations of acid. A TCA peel works by removing dead skin cells and stimulating new skin cell growth.
Alopecia areata is a condition that causes hair to fall out in small patches, which can be unnoticeable. These patches may connect, however, and then become noticeable. The condition develops when the immune system attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss.
There are some promising treatments for mature skin. Retinoic acid, originally formulated as a cream for treating acne, improves the skin surface texture, reduces irregular pigmentation, and increases dermal collagen if applied daily for six months or longer. It is currently the only medication approved by the FDA as safe and effective for reversing some of the effects of sun damage. Hydroxy acids can also help reverse some of the effects of the sun by exfoliating or peeling away dead, damaged skin cells.
These dilated facial blood vessels may be related to sun damage. They respond to treatment with electrosurgery or laser surgery.
As skin ages, collagen and elastin, fibers that keep the skin firm, weaken. The skin looks loose and lax, becomes thinner, and loses fat so that it looks less plump and smooth. The loss of underlying fat and bone causes the skin to fold and wrinkle.
